Hello!

This Ford was built in 1938. The vehicle was modified sometime in the past. I found this truck in South Dakota. Just a wonderful junkyard to tour! Arizona is another good place for junkyard tours. This vehicle was originally equipped with Marmon-Herrington four wheel drive components. The Marmon-Herrington components were removed. The rear portion of the chassis was cut off in favor of an International Harvester chassis. The front and rear axles were replaced with International Harvester axles. I was privileged to find a complete Marmon-Herrington chassis for this truck. My intent here is to build a fire truck for use at Apple City. In rural areas, people really need to be self sufficient. Putting in a call for help might not produce timely results. I have another Ford cab over engine truck that was built in 1947. The oval grille was only used for the 1938 and 1939 models.  After that, a vertical grille was used. I really like the oval grille. The Ford had more horsepower than any of it's contemporaries. The flathead Ford engine took up more space. This Ford cab over is wider than the cabs used for other Ford trucks. Both General Motors and Dodge used six cylinder engines. Advertising for the Chevrolet boasted that their cabs could seat three. The Ford could only seat two. A look at the floor pedals in this truck indicates a real lack of space in the Ford. I will produce more photos, but it is the first day of spring. When it warms a bit, I will produce more photos.

If you find this interesting, do a web search for Ford Cab Over Engine.
